Rory Burke’s Coral Oceans
Welcome to my blog about the importance of Coral Reefs
Hi! My name is Rory Burke and I am currently studying marine biology and ecology at the University of Miami. From the time I was a little girl, I always knew three things: I loved animals, I loved the ocean, and I wanted to go out of state for college. So I decided to put the work in and pursue all three of those things. Marine biology was something I wanted to study – even with the tedious labs and research that came with it.
Diving into marine biology I wanted to bring focus to coral ecology and coral reef communities. Coral is far more important than what people believe; they aren’t just plants that grow from rocks in the ocean, coral is a living, “breathing” animals that are necessary to keep our oceans healthy. I am going to cover the importance of coral and how it supports its own ecosystem. The purpose of my blog is to educate the public about coral reef communities and ecology and provide methods of conservation for individuals to take to help keep our oceans healthy and clean.
Things Being Covered:
- Coral Ecology
- Coral Reef Communities
- Conservation
